Michael Boyle, a senior at Edison High School, was awarded a $4,000

Regional Coca Cola Scholars college scholarship. The program recognizes

exemplary high school seniors who have demonstrated academic and civic

excellence in their schools and communities. . . . Michael James Dexter

of Huntington Beach has earned the title of Eagle Scout, the highest

advancement award offered by the Boy Scouts of America. Dexter is one of

about 2% of all Boy Scouts to attain the Eagle rank. Each candidate must

earn 21 merit badges and successfully complete a church, community, or

synagogue-related project to earn his eagle. Dexter built a fence to stop

children from running into the path of oncoming cars at Mile Square

Regional Park. He is a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and

played volleyball at Servite High School, where he recently graduated. He

is the son of Jim and Susie Dexter of Huntington Beach. . . . Literacy

Volunteers of America-Huntington Valley announced the graduation of 11

new tutors: Cynthia Bennett, Rosemary Bostaph, Jane Clarke, Blanca Evans,

Rich Evans, Kathie Herdman, John B. Ledgerwood and Karen Pully of

Huntington Beach, Claudia Sims of Westminster, A. Duane Smith of Fountain

Valley and Greg Anderson of Long Beach. Each person will help an adult

student improve his or her reading, writing or speaking at the Huntington

Beach Public Library. . . . Army Pvt. Adam-Joseph F. Gibson has arrived

at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Ala., to complete the ammunition

specialist advanced individual training course. There he will learn to

assist in receipt, storage, issue, maintenance, modification, destruction

and demilitarization of conventional ammunition, munitions and explosive

components according to technical and safety directives; perform

ammunition supply stock control and accounting duties using automated and

manual procedures, and operate material handling equipment to maneuver

ammunition. Gibson is the son of Cynthia L. Hickok of Huntington Beach. .

. . Army Pvt. Timothy B. Beam has graduated from the utilities equipment

repairer advanced individual training course at Aberdeen Proving Ground,

Aberdeen, Md. He is the son of Patricia L. Beam of Huntington Beach. . .

. His wife, Nicole, is the daughter of Marv and Julia Ingrahm of

Huntington Beach.
