Surfing: Rip Curl Pro sets its stage for Newport Beach
NEWPORT BEACH - The Professional Surfing Tour of America will take
to the waves of Newport Beach’s 56th Street for the Rip Curl Pro Sept.
5-9.
A four-star men’s and a one-star women’s event on the Association of
Surfing Professionals’ World Qualifying Series, the Rip Curl Pro is
expected to attract some of the top surfers in the world to the event.
Adding to the festivities will be a two-day amateur surfing contest,
the sixth stop of the Vans/Surfing Magazine Airshow Series, sponsored by
the City of Newport Beach.
Admission and parking are free and the contest kicks off a 7 a.m. each
day. There is $65,000 in total winnings available with the men’s winner
taking home $6,000 and the women’s winner $2,000.
The event will premiere on television Oct. 22 at 5 p.m. on the Outdoor
Life Network.
