Ever wanted to sing in a chorus? The Orange Coast College Chorale will

hold auditions for singers of all abilities from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday and

Sept. 10. This year’s repertoire will include Handel’s “Messiah”

performed with an orchestra. Richard Soto is the choir’s director. The

auditions will be held in Music Room 101 at OCC, 2701 Fairview Road, Costa Mesa.

Blues on the Bay this Saturday

The Sons of the American Legion will present its fourth annual Blues

on the Bay celebration from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at Post 291, 215

15th St., Newport Beach.

Performers will include Roy Gaines, Nick Curran and the Nitelifes, and

The Slimtones. Tickets are $20.

Music Center Spotlight applications due

Teens from Costa Mesa and Newport Beach are reminded that applications

for the Music Center’s 14th annual Music Center Spotlight Awards are due.

Mailed applications, which include a $10 fee, in the performance

category are due Oct. 8. Visual arts applications must be postmarked by

Nov. 2. Online application deadlines are the same.

Twelve performance finalists will compete at the 14th annual Spotlight

Awards on April 2 at the Music Center’s Dorothy Chandler Pavilion in Los

Angeles.

Winners will receive $5,000, and runners-up will receive $2,500.

Christmas parade seeks entries

The 70th anniversary Hollywood Christmas Parade is looking for

musicians from Southern California to apply for spots on Tinseltown

stages for the Nov. 25 parade.

Produced by the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, the event will allow

performers to entertain a two-mile route that includes Hollywood

Boulevard, Vine Street and Sunset Boulevard.

Prospective participants should send demo tapes or CDs by Sept. 14 to

the attention of Dave Hopkinson, c/o the Hollywood Christmas Parade, 7018
