WHAT HAPPENED:

The board voted in favor of Huntington Beach High School applying for

funding in the amount of $281,000 to The William G. Irwin Charity

Foundation for pool equipment and improvements.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The funding will be used in conjunction with donations to provide

equipment and some improvements that were deleted from the construction

contract due to insufficient funds. No matching funds are required and

authorization to expend funds upon receipt is requested.

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board approved that Huntington Beach High apply for funding in the

amount of $281,000 to The George Hoag Family Foundation for pool

equipment and improvements.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Like the application for funding submitted to The William G. Irwin

Charity Foundation, this funding will be used in conjunction with

donations to provide equipment and some improvements that were deleted

from the construction contract due to insufficient funds. No matching

funds are required and authorization to expend funds upon receipt is

requested.

IN FAVOR 4/ AGAINST 1

WHAT HAPPENED:

Though not unanimous, the board favored the spending of $378,000 from

the general fund to fund the 2001-02 Strategic Plan, Odyssey 2002.

Matthew Harper cast the lone “no” vote.

WHAT IT MEANS:

The Strategic Plan, Odyssey 2002, focuses on curriculum, instruction

and assessment, technology, facilities, exemplary performance,

communication, safety, at-risk student programs and site strategic

planning. Additional funds, other than the general fund, are also

directed to new and continuing Strategic Plan activities, including state

bond funds, categorical funds, fees and city support and expenditures

already reflected in the proposed budget.
