Locals sparkle at Costa Mesa G

COSTA MESA - Five local junior golfers distinguished themselves

with solid efforts after two days of play Tuesday and Wednesday on the

Los Lagos Course at Costa Mesa Golf & Country Club in the JAGS Costa Mesa

2001 Summer Series Junior Tournament.

Cerritos’ Garrett Sapp was the winner in boys competition after firing

a 3-under 70-71-141, and Huntington Beach’s Jennifer Osborn won the girls

division with an 81-79-160.

Rick Costello of Whittier was two strokes off the pace in the boys

play, while Costa Mesa’s Jason Cassidy and Newport Beach’s Nick Sherman

shared third place overall, eight strokes off the pace.

Cassidy put together rounds of 76-73 to finish second in the boys

15-18, and Sherman did the same, in reverse, 73-76.

Also, Newport Coast’s Ryan Ozonian (72-79-151), Newport Beach’s Rhett

Palmer (85-78-163) and Eric Schelin (100-101-201) showed promise.

Sixth in the girls’ field was Newport Beach’s Margaret Anderson

(104-104-208).
