Girls tennis: Sailors win opener

FULLERTON - The Newport Harbor High girls tennis team opened its

season with a 10-8 nonleague victory at Sunny Hills Wednesday.

Seniors Megan Hawkins and Kelly Nelson posted two singles victories

each. The Khoury sisters, Carmen and Diana, and the Newport tandem of

Erika Buder and Krista McIntosh also earned two wins that came in

doubles.

The Sailors (1-0) will host University Monday at 3 p.m. Sunny Hills

fell to 2-1.

GIRLS TENNIS

Newport Harbor 10, Sunny Hills 8

Singles - Hawkins (NH) lost to Kao, 0-6, defeated Cobinilla, 6-4,

defeated Chang, 6-4. Nelson lost 3-6, won 6-4, 6-0. Adams lost 1-6, 0-6,

won 6-4.

Doubles - Buder-McIntosh (NH) lost to Shih-Esquivel, 2-6, defeated

Kanganeer-Shih, 6-0, defeated Wong-Lee, 6-2. C. Khoury-D. Khoury lost 6-7

(4-7), won 6-1, 6-4. Olson-Dunlap lost 3-6, won 6-3, lost 3-6.
