HB Lightning opens season with tie, loss

The HB Lightning, a girls’ 16 Bronze team in the Commonwealth Football

Club, opened its 2001-02 season last weekend with matches against Irvine

and Cypress.

Lauren Stimmler knocked in two goals, the last on a pinpoint pass by

Megan Ball, as the Lightning, of AYSO Region 143 (Huntington

Beach/Westminster), fought back to gain a 2-2 tie with Irvine. Jessica

Gould made several key saves to keep the Lightning in the contest.

In the second game, the Lightning outscored Cypress in the second half

but fell by a score of 4-1. Stimmler scored the lone goal.
