NEWPORT BEACH - The Newport Harbor High Volleyball team earned a

4-1 record and a quarterfinals appearance in the Division I field of the

Dave Mohs Memorial Volleyball Tournament played at Newport Harbor

Huntington Beach and Coroa del Mar High Schools Saturday.

The Sailors ran of three straight vicotries in pool play, opening with

a victory over Chaparral (Las Vegas) 15-5, 15-7. Newport also defeated

Hart (15-2, 15-12) and Royal 15-10, 15-13 in the best-of-three tournament

format.

In the first round of the Division I playoffs, Christine Woller led

the Tars with 9 kills and Katie King amassed 36 assists as Newport

defeated Huntington Beach, 15-6, 15-10.

But, in the quarterfinals, the Sailors fell to Mater Dei, 16-14, 15-1,

as Andrea Trinen slammed six kills and King dished out 32 assists.

“We made a few too many unforced errors to beat that quality of a

team,” Newport Coach Dan Glenn said.

Glenn also mentioned he is excited about the Sailors upcoming

schedule, which includes Thursday’s match against Back Bay rival Corona

del Mar, 6 p.m., at the Sea Kings’ gym.

CdM won the Silver Division of its pool, but lost two games in pool

play and could not reach the playoffs. The Sea Kings finished with a 4-2

record on Saturday.

The finals of the Dave Mohs Memorial Tournament will be played Monday

at Edison High (7).
