Boys and girls cross country: CdM girls sweep

FULLERTON - Corona del Mar High senior Julie Allen set a course

record for the second straight week with a 17:40, winning the Division II

title at the Sunny Hills Invitational Saturday.

The Sea Kings won the team Division II title as they placed runners in

the top seven. The CdM boys team finished second in Division II.

Last week, Allen set a course record at the Laguna Hills Inviational.

For the Corona girls, senior Becky Cummins came in second at 19:41 and

following her came junior Katherine Morse with a 20:10 on the three-mile

course.

The fourth- and fifth-place slots were taken by freshmen Ahlia Kattan

(21:10) and Melissa Swigert (21:12), respectively. Sophomores Kinzie

Kramer (21:37) and Taryn Kawata (21:47) closed out the top seven.

The boys were led by senior Dustin Hodges, who placed fourth overall

in Division II with a 16:46.

CdM senior Mark Pomerantz took sixth (16:56), while sophomore Kevin

Artz came in ninth (17:16).

Junior Blake Dillion (17:32), senior Ben Inouye (17:39), sophomore

Danny Quinlan (18:10) and sophomore J.C. Turner (18:12) rounded out CdM’s

top seven runners.

The Sea Kings will compete in their first dual meet of the season

Thursday against University. The CdM girls have not lost a dual meet in

the past four years.

Sea Kings Coach Bill Sumner said his boys, “seem to be coming around,”

and Sumner is expecting them to continue to improve as they prepare for

the Stanford Invitational in two weeks.
