Girls golf: Sage Hill breaking out the clubs

NEWPORT COAST - As if opening a new school with still no seniors

wasn’t tough enough, Sage Hill High girls golf coach Liz Resnick will be

fielding this year’s varsity squad in concert with the new scoring

system.

“Right now, we’ve got five players on the team, and we’ll have all of

them scoring,” Resnick said, referring to the first-year CIF Southern

Section rule of playing six and counting five.

Sage Hill, a second-year private school which will play its home

matches at Strawberry Farms and Oak Creek golf clubs in Irvine, isn’t

counting on having the next Angela Won (University) in its lineup. But

Resnick hopes the girls will learn a lot and enjoy the game this fall.

Juniors April Kim, Katy Dull and Sarah Cowan, along with sophomores

Madyson Page and Chelsea Vayner, are essentially swinging the clubs for

the first time, but Resnick seems excited about their potential and the

program’s possibilities.

Sage Hill, playing its first year of girls golf, competes in the

Academy League, which has only one other girls golf team.
