NEWPORT BEACH -- When Dennis Rodman appears in court for noise

violations on Oct. 1, he will also have to deal with two misdemeanor

charges of allegedly racing his 47-foot powerboat through Newport Harbor.

The former NBA bad boy was formally charged on Monday with speeding

violations for traveling 20 mph in a 5 mph zone on two consecutive

Fridays in August -- Aug. 3 and Aug. 10.

The Aug. 10 incident occurred after Rodman, ferrying six passengers in

his boat Sexual Chocolate, left the dock at Josh Slocums, a restaurant he

helps run and finance in Newport Beach, said Tori Richards, a spokeswoman

for the Orange County district attorney’s office.

Rodman was already scheduled to appear in court Oct. 1 for an

arraignment on three charges of making too much noise at his 40th

birthday party on May 12. That arraignment has been postponed on several

occasions, most recently Monday.

Paul Meyer, Rodman’s attorney, said he doesn’t believe Rodman is being

singled out.

“I expect that the court will treat a speeding ticket for Mr. Rodman

the same as they would treat a speeding ticket for anyone else,” Meyer

said.

If convicted, Rodman faces up to a year in jail and $2,000 in fines

for the speeding charges.

If convicted of the noise charges, he can get up to 18 months in jail

and face $3,000 in fines.

Rodman “disturbed the peace” in his Seashore Drive neighborhood on May

12, when he hosted a party on the beach to celebrate his 40th birthday,

according to prosecutors. Police said about 300 people came to the party,

which featured famous bands playing on the beach.

Rodman also jumped off a helicopter onto the beach during the party.

Police in riot gear disrupted the festivities, and the party moved to

Josh Slocums on Coast Highway.
