In many groups and cultures, black cats are avoided because of

superstition, said DiAnna Pfaff-Martin of the Community Animal Network.

But the network hopes people will adopt such cats, especially in the near

future, she said, because local shelters do not put black cats up for

adoption during October.

Meanwhile, the network has received various donations that have helped

Pfaff-Martin pay the debt she has incurred with veterinary bills. Still,

however, the network needs about $5,000 to $8,000 to continue rescuing

pets and needs a fund-raiser, she said.
