Youth soccer: Action-packed week of soccer

This past week in youth soccer included plenty of action from

various squads in AYSO Region 120 as boys and girls took to the fields.

In a Boys Under-8 game, it was a clash of green Saturday, when the

Green Gators took on the Green Rangers.

The Gators led early, with a goal by Max Hume. The Gators showed a

strong offense, with Hume and forward tony Rodriguez scoring twice.

Daniel Segerblom and Stephen Sawyer assisted the Gators with solid

passing, while Ryan Adkisson, Max Gilbert, Joseph Williams and goalie

Dillon Saylor provided stellar defensive play.

The Green Rangers played an aggressive game, resulting in Estevan

Silva’s two goals

Joey Abernathy, Robert Stites and goalie Aryel Huckaby came up

big-time for the defense. Also, Tyler and Lukas Matthews pressured the

Gators all over the field.

In Boys Under-10 action:

The Green Fireballs were led by Michael Mejia, who scored three goals

and Brian Waldron, who added one. However, the defense, led by Antonio

Toledo and Alvaro Magan, could not stop a very talented team coached by

Ricardo Aguilar.

Lighting Bolts 2, Patriots 1

Eric McCool and Tony Ebergeni gave the Bolts all they needed, each

scoring a goal, as the defense dominated.

Mitch Pfautz tied the game at 1 early in the second half for the

Patriots.

Late in the game, Lightning Bolts goalkeeper Tyler Pappas made crucial

saves to preserve the win.

Patriots Aaron Gallardo, Eric Gallardo, Jensen Ivorsen and Jayson

Nguyen contributed with strong efforts.

Wolverines 2, Hurricanes 1

Thursday night offered a game between the Wolverines and the

Hurricanes. The Wolverines started the challenge with five breakaways

being blocked or rushed by the Hurricanes goalkeeper Robert Royster.

Brandon Karr scored the game’s first goal for the Hurricanes, while

Remington Bray playedstrong defense.

Caz Patelski controlled the midfield for the Hurricanes, while the

Wolverines continued to look for the goal with accurate passes from David

Nava, Ryan Barnett, Jose and Eduardo Espinoza, Tyler Suttan, Ricky

Williams, Edwin Gonzalez and finished attempts by Robert Rutan, Evan

Edison and Marc DeFrenza. Kevin Kiser and Evan Edison kept watch in goal

while Marc Jones scored both goals, the second one on a penalty kick.

Team Quicksilver won its second game of the season Saturday, against

the Patriots.

Strong assists by Cody Childers, Kohl Jones, Andrew Roth, Robert

Blackwell and Tyler Schiltz helped Rigoberto Perez and Devin Guthrie

score goals.

Goalie Scott Wagner blocked two strong shots. Jonathan Miranda had a

blocked shot on goal in the third quarter, while Scott Alvarado had a

solid all-around game.

Team USA 4, Wolverines 0 - Saturday was a rematch, but this time the

Wolverines were ready for the challenge.

Team support by Robert Rutan, Jose Espinoza and Ryan Barnett gave

Kevin Kiser the opportunity to finish two attacks in the first half to

lead, 2-0.

But the second half finished differently for the Wolverines as David

Nava, Edwin Gonzalez and Evan Edison with Tyler Sutton in goal shut down

every attack by Team USA.

Kevin Kiser ran into the spotlight with another two goals after

receiving crossing passes from Marc Jones, Marc DeFrenza, and Eduardo

Espinoza.

In Girls Under-10 action:

Wild Coyotes 4, Shooting Stars 1

The first half saw both teams explode with a give and take that

spurred forward Katie Weber to score first for the Coyotes, but the Stars

quickly tied the game.

The Coyotes then broke open the game in the second half with

additional scores by Katie, Chelsea Brynd-Barnett and Laura Gomez.

Midfielders Madison McCarthy, Erin Purcell and Lei Hookano contributed

to the Coyotes’ control. Solid defense by Alex Bauer, Miriam Gamboa and

Venessa Strodel held off the Stars.

Keepers Kasandra Serrano and Hannah Speer helped the Coyotes with

their strong defense.

In Girls Under-12 action:

Hot Tamales 4, Silver Shooter 1

The Hot Tamales heated up the field against the Silver Shooters at

TeWinkle School Saturday.

Abby Scheafer scored the Tamales’ first goal. Then Tamisha Williams

scored two goals, one while playing defense.

Cheyenne Lopez closed out the scoring.

Bad Hair Day 3, Thrashing Tigers 1

Jamie Surdyka scored twice and Bridget Gleason scored the other goal

for Bad Hair Day.

Cara Holmes, Olivia Drummond, Lindsay Tinnion, and Regina Sianez

controlled the defensive end for Bad Hair Day.

In Girls Under-16 action:

Avalanche 4, Tustin 1

Forward Caroline Dorsman led the Costa Mesa Avalanche to victory by

scoring three goals and assisting Vera Gale for another goal against

Tustin Saturday at Loma Vista.

Goalie Marci Kirchberg’s defensive efforts paved the way as the

Avalanche allowed just one goal.
