HUNTINGTON BEACH -- It’s called the Huntington Beach Invitational

at Central Park, but Estancia High’s Eagles are doing their best to

change the name to Eagles Invitational.

Junior Diane Rosette ran the fourth-best ever time for girls over the

3-mile course with a time of 19:22 at a site her coach, Charlie Appell,

called “challenging” because of the amount of grass involved. Earlier in

the week Rosette was the winner at Laguna Beach High’s hilly course with

a 20:15 effort..

Rosette finished some 50 yards ahead of her nearest competition, Lynn

Dixon of Mira Costa, who clocked a 19:32.

The boys, meanwhile, won the team title, outrunning Santa Margarita

for the title with a 17-point margin of victory. Estancia’s team totals

were 103 points off collective times of 1:24.58.

Humberto Rojas was the leader of Estancia’s six, finishing third in

16:06.

Other Eagles were Mike Casillas (10th at 16:41), Aaron Van Geem (18th

at 17:10); Gerardo Orozco (24th at 17:15); Abel Flores (48th at 17:44)

and Pansilo Elias (54th at 17:56.

Finishing fifth in the boys race was Newport Harbor.

Alec Urtusuastegui was 12th in 16:49, followed by Nicholas Miller

(13th in 16:55), Joel Furman (17th in 17:09), Ivan Romero (50th in

17:46); Juan Rios (63rd in 18:13), Jeff Doody (67th in 18:21) and Chris Negrete (79th in 18:53).

Others in Estancia’s girls race, which led to a sixth-place team

finish, were Ludi Valdez (15th in 21:15), Judy Hernandez (50th in 22:36),

and the senior Geider twins, Hanni 54th in 22:43, and Jasmine, 58th in

23:01.
