Brent Barbour was named assistant media planner in June for Newport

Beach-based advertising agency Lawrence, Mayo and Ponder. Barbour joins

Emily Adelmann, a Costa Mesa resident and the agency’s media director, in

expanding the department’s capabilities. Barbour was previously program

manager for Irvine-based YPM Inc., where he managed accounts for Hyatt

Hotels Resorts, Alamo Rent-A-Car and AppleOne Employment Services.

Adelmann was media planning manager for Nissan Motor Corp. and manager of

media services at Taco Bell before joining Lawrence, Mayo and Ponder. . .

. Timothy Boe has transferred ownership shares in Architectural Resources

Collaboration Inc. and has taken over operations of its offices in

Newport Beach. Boe will oversee projects in retail facilities,

commercial, fueling facilities and quick-service restaurants. Boe has won

numerous design awards with an established reputation in the fields of

project approvals and obtaining entitlements. The Newport Beach office

will now be known as Boe Architects. . . . Sarah B. Brown of Balboa

Island and daughter of Dr. and Mrs. John C. Brown, made the dean’s list

for the 2001 spring semester at Azusa Pacific University. Brown, a

graduate of Estancia High School, maintained a grade-point average of 3.5

or better for the semester. She’s majoring in psychology. . . . The

American Cancer Society Orange County Region nominated its new board of

directors for fiscal year 2001-02. Steve Giusto of Costa Mesa will serve

as chair-elect for resources connection. Also on the board is James P.

Burra of Endural material handling in Costa Mesa, Carol C. Carlile of

Costa Mesa, David Forrest of Merril Lynch in Newport Beach, Norman Loats

of Corona del Mar and Robert J. McKenna Sr. of Corona del Mar. . . . Carl

Smith of Costa Mesa was one of more than 75 Cal State Long Beach students

to spend a semester or the entire 2001-02 academic year taking classes

abroad. Smith will study at the University of Florence in Italy. Students

must have upper division or graduate standing, have a cumulative

grade-point average of 2.75 or 3.0 (depending on the program applied

for), and have completed the required language or any other preparatory

study to be eligible for admission to the program.
