Women’s volleyball: Vanguard falls in four

COSTA MESA - Visiting Concordia University earned a 30-27, 25-30,

30-25, 30-26 win over Vanguard in a Golden State Athletic Conference

women’s volleyball match Tuesday.

Vanguard (2-12, 1-5 in conference) took a 26-25 lead in the first game

on a kill by Debby Baeder, but Concordia (11-6, 3-4) rallied to outlast

the Lions.

In the second game, Vanguard took an 18-9 lead and held off the Eagles

to tie the match. Baeder had five kills in the game, including the

game-winner.

The Eagles’ Carrie Merritt had five straight kills in the deciding

game to seal the victory.

Baeder led all players with a career-high 18 kills. Erin Shevlin had

16 for Concordia.
