IN FAVOR / AGAINST

WHAT HAPPENED:

The board decided to enter into an agreement with Y’Deen/Associates to

provide architectural services for the modernization of Ocean View High.

Trustee Matthew Harper cast the single dissenting vote.

WHAT IT MEANS:

Patricia Koch, assistant superintendent., business services, said that

currently five comprehensive high schools -- Huntington Beach,

Westminster, Marina, Fountain Valley and Edison -- currently are

undergoing development or planning stages for modernization. To be

eligible, a school must be 25 years old. Ocean View will not reach 25

until 2002-03 at the latest, Koch said.

“We wanted to apply for funding right now,” she said. “We didn’t want

to wait until Ocean View turned 25, then apply for funding.”

Koch said that a repairs walk through was held on the Edison campus

Wednesday. Roofing, heating ventilation and air conditioning upgrades are

the modernization projects she said will take place across the entire

campus beginning sometime in June 2002.

Y’Deen/Associates’ services are are estimated to cost $447,000 and

will be paid from the district’s Capital Facilities Fund. The

modernization project falls under the State School Facility Program.
