YUCAIPA - The Estancia High boys and girls cross country teams won

their overall titles and the school won the sweepstakes title in Division

III at the Yucaipa Invitational Saturday.

Humberto Rojas led the boys with his first-place finish in 16:19, as

Estancia earned 28 points to second-place Bloomington’s 129.

Mike Casillas followed in second (16:33), while Aaron Van Geem came in

sixth (17:15), Panfilo Elias (ninth in 17:48), Gerardo Orozco (10th in

17:54, Abel Flores (12th in 18:01) and Francisco Morales (30th in 19:18)

also contributed to the victory.

The Estancia girls won first place with 37 points, while second-place

Beaumont finished with 83.

Estancia junior Diana Rosete won the meet in 19:29, as the Eagles

scored each of the five girls who ran, including Ludi Valdez (5th in

22:05), Judy Hernandez (8th in 23:22, Hanni Geider (9th in 23:33), and

Marilyn Reich (14th in 24:19).

“(Estancia did) very good considering the heat,” Estancia Coach

Charlie Appell said. “We had one boy (Andrew DeAugustino) on the JV, who

finished 32nd but because of him we finished third as a team, and won the

sweepstakes.”

Estancia’s frosh/soph boys and girls teams won the meet and the junior

varsity girls also came in first, while the junior varsity boys took

third to bring home the sweepstakes win.

The Eagles return to Pacific Coast League action, Thursday at 3:15

p.m., when they host crosstown rival Costa Mesa.
