Colby death: Colby autopsy today

An autopsy has been scheduled today for Matt Colby, the 17-year-old

Costa Mesa High football player who died from injuries sustained in the

Mustangs’ Friday night game against Ocean View High.

A coroner’s office spokesman said Sunday there is no time frame to

determine the cause of death.

Colby was pronounced dead Saturday at 10:35 a.m. when family members

chose to take him off a respirator at UCI Medical Center. He took himself

out early in the game complaining of a headache, passed out on the

sideline at Westminster High and never regained consciousness.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
