-- Compiled by the Daily Pilot staff

Here at the Pilot, there’s nothing we love better than a front page

photo of a perfect, peeling wave. We haven’t run many lately because the

surf this summer -- as we’ve reported -- was just horrible. Not big days

that were, as we say, “news.”

Last week it got close, however. But you didn’t see a shot out front,

thanks to a new measuring stick we’re employing here.

It’s pretty simple: If one of the editors goes surfing that morning,

you can bet the waves aren’t big enough to really be news.

So, the next time you see a shot of The Wedge in all its pounding

glory, you’ll know we haven’t gotten wet.

Unless you hear differently here first.
