DENOMINATION: Nondenominational.

YEAR ESTABLISHED: 1998. The congregation met for 6 months at the

Edison Community Center. The congregation of about 35-50 members then

moved to a small storefront location on Beach Boulevard at Ellis Avenue,

next to TJ’s bar. The church recently moved to its present location when

landowner Ron I. Brindle donated the property.

SERVICE TIMES: Sunday worship is at 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Children

attend the service with their families until they are dismissed for

Sunday school just before the pastor’s message. Praise and worship is at

7 p.m. on Wednesday.

SENIOR PASTOR: Derek Anunciation

SIZE OF CONGREGATION: About 80 adults attend each worship service.

MAKEUP OF CONGREGATION: Adults range in age from 25 to 80. There are a

lot of empty nesters and about 20 families with children at home.

CHILD CARE: Nursery is provided and parents are welcome to bring young

children to the worship service with them.

TYPE OF WORSHIP: Contemporary Gospel.

TYPE OF MESSAGE: Expository.

RECENT MESSAGE: A recent message theme centered on the love of God --

how God loves people. Praise Christian Center is called “The church that

loves people.”

UPCOMING MESSAGE: The Day of the Lord Is at Hand.

DRESS: Anunciation says that casual attire is fine, though he believes

in “giving God your best.”

VISITOR INFORMATION: Hosts are available to show guests around and

offer information about the church. The “Statement of Faith” is available

on a table at the entrance to the sanctuary. Visitor cards are available

on the table for visitors to fill out with their contact information and

prayer requests or other messages. One side of the card reads, “You are

welcome at this church.” The other side of the card reads, “Great to have

you with us.”

CHURCH PROGRAMS: Worship, praise, Bible study and fellowship.

OUTREACH PROGRAMS: The congregation’s Abba Father Food Bank helps

feeds 30 families. Each year the church sponsors “Make a Difference Day”

at Amber Leaf Center in Huntington Beach. The church also sponsors a

weekly cable TV show called “God’s Way.” It airs at 8:30 a.m. Sundays on

Time Warner Channel 6.

MISSION STATEMENT: To love, lead, equip and encourage people into the

fullness of God’s perfect will for their lives.

VISION STATEMENT: A church for Surf City and a ministry for the world.

INTERESTING NOTE: Anunciation supported his early ministry by acting

in TV and film with performers such as Robert De Niro, William Conrad

(Jake and the Fatman), Bill Murray and Uma Thurman.
