The Huntington Beach Playhouse is presenting “Bus Stop” directed by

Terri Miller-Schmidt 8 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m.

Work from 45 artists from The Huntington Beach Art League will be on

display at the Photographic Society of Orange County and The Huntington

TUESDAY

The Main Street Library Branch of the Huntington Beach Library System

is celebrating its 50th anniversary starting today with a puppet show,

bedtime story and professional program at 4 p.m. Between Oct. 9 and Oct.

12 there will be various children’s programs on a daily basis. There will

The Huntington Beach Concert Band is an all-volunteer community

organization with approximately 70 members, led by music director Tom

Ridley. Founded in February 1973, the band plays a wide variety of

musical styles -- from classical, to Broadway, to contemporary. They

perform frequently at events and locations throughout Southern

California, including Disneyland, Leisure World, Huntington Beach Pier

Plaza, and Verizon Wireless Amphitheater.The Huntington Beach Concert

Band is open to all interested musicians age 18 and over. Rehearsals are

held 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tuesdays in the band room at Marina High School

OCT. 13

The Main Street library is celebrating its 50th anniversary with an

open house from 1 to 4 p.m. at the library, 525 Main St. There will be

clowns, face painting, story telling, a balloon lady and a visit from

The Huntington Beach Art Center’s exhibit, “Rhapsody” is showing Oct.

13 through Dec. 1. The exhibition will feature Darrow’s works in mixed

media and collage from 1990-2000. Darrow uses ordinary objects such as

shows, scraps of paper and book bindings to create his works. There will

be an artists reception from 7 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 13 and an artist talk

from 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 18 at the gallery 538 Main St. The gallery’s

hours are noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Friday and Saturday; noon to 8 p.m.

The Huntington Beach Central Library and Cultural Center is presenting

a Gala Opera Night with tenor Christopher Campbell, baritone Boris

Zhaivoronok, soprano Cynthia Snyder and lyric soprano Malina Gerges. The

performers, who have starred with leading opera companies in the United

States and abroad, will sing arias by Puccini, Verdi, Mozart and other

favorites at 8 p.m. Sunday, at the library, 7111 Talbert Ave. General

Children are invited to wear Halloween costumes and enjoy a magic show

featuring World Champion Magician Johnny Ace Palmer. Shows are at 4 and 7

p.m. at the Huntington Beach Public Library in the Library Theater at

The Huntington Valley West Committee of the Philharmonic Society is

seeking volunteers to help promote music programs for children. Each year

the Philharmonic Society Committees bring music programs to more than

Diana Dessery Hensley, an Orange County nature photographer will

display her work at the Main Street Library in Huntington Beach from Oct.

p.m. There is a shortened schedule on weekends. Classes include a
