Patriots blank Quick Silver Girls

The Patriots went on the defensive Saturday to claim a victory in AYSO

Region 56 girls’ 10-and-Under Division beating the Quick Silver Girls,

2-0.

Rebecca Hernandez, Rachael Adair, Sarah Ruiz and Sierra Mirghanbari

led the defensive effort.

Dana Jorgensen opened up the scoring with a goal off a pass from

Chelsea Raineri early in the first half. The second goal came when an

Alex Arteriatno pass set up Rachel Pasternak, who put the ball in the net

on a shot from just outside the penalty box.

Lightning ties, loses

The first half of the league season came to a close last weekend for

the Huntington Beach Lightning, who battled Laguna Hills to a scoreless

tie before falling to Mission Viejo, 4-2.

Aubrie Fuette and Janet Peterson each scored a goal against Mission

Viejo.

The Lightning, a girls’ 16 Bronze Division team in the Commonwealth

Football Club, ended the first half of league play with a 2-2-2 mark,

good for third place.

Under-12 Division

“Title” Waves 2, Jerry’s Angels 1

Early scores by Beth Rafferty and Joanna Steinhaus were the difference

in the game for the “Title” Waves. Rafferty scored off a breakaway and

Steinhaus’ goal was assisted by Meagan Smith.

Jessica Gagnon, Nicolette Mather, Kelsey McInnes and Tonya Picken led

the defense, and Kelsey Ferry, Jamie Freeman and Smith shared

goal-tending duties.

Under-19 Division

Bait 5, Tustin 0

Dana Livingston scored three goals and Jennifer Deutsch and Kailin

Childs each scored once as Bait, ranked first in the south Orange County

area, won its fifth straight match.

Boys’

Under-10 Division

Roadrunners 4, Hurricanes 0

Two goals went to Matthew Stickler, one each to Roland Moder and

Anthony Nguyen and the defensive efforts of Nicholas Carrigan, Andrew

Flores, Nicholas Gregory and Daniel Resnick helped goalie Kyle Zekaria

get the shut out.

Roadrunners 1, Gladiators 1

Roland Moder’s second period goal gave the Roadrunners the tie, which

defender Kyle Zekaria preserved by trapping the ball just short of the

goal line, which allowed goalie Nicholas Carrigan the chance to take

possession.
