Cross country: Eagles win invitational
HUNTINGTON BEACH - Humberto Rojas (15:39) finished in second place
to help lead Estancia to a first-place finish with 100 points in the
Central Park boys cross country invitational on Saturday.
Norwalk took second with 112 points and Burroughs (Ridgecrest) placed
third with 115.
Damion Nieves of Sonora placed first in 15:26.
Estancia’s Mike Casillas (16:09) placed ninth, Abel Flores (16:32)
placed 20th, Aaron Van Geem (16:37) placed 26th and Panfillo Elias
(17:00) placed 50th. Gerardo Orozco (17:05) took 54th place and Francisco
Morales (17:52) was 90th for the Eagles.
Elias’ performance helped the Eagles take the lead in points. Estancia
won the tournament for the first time in school history.
The event featured two schools with former Estancia runners as head
coaches. Tony Barnes, head coach for Burroughs, and Jim McCarthy, head
coach for University City, are former Eagles.
