Aging school facilities will get a step closer to renovationtonight
when the Newport-Mesa Unified School District board votes on the
implementation plan for the Measure A School Facilities Improvement
Program.
The impetus for the program came in June 2000, when district residents
passed Measure A, a $110-million bond to pay for the renovations. That
amount will be combined with an estimated $53 million in state matching
funds.
An advisory oversight committee spent the summer hashing out a
schedule based on three main criteria -- health and safety, access for
the disabled and preserving the integrity of buildings.
The school board will meet at 7 p.m. at the district’s main office,
2985-A Fair Drive, Costa Mesa.
