Sailors nip Woodbridge
Newport Harbor High’s girls tennis team squeaked past visiting
Woodbridge in Sea View League competition Tuesday to remain unbeaten in
league play, edging the Warriors on games, 75-69, after the two teams
played to a 9-9 standoff.
In the final match of the day the Sailors’ duo of Krista McIntosh and
Kelly Nelson rallied from a 4-5 deficit to post a 7-5 decision to pull
Newport into the 9-9 tie, and with the help of Natalie Braverman’s 6-1
victory over Elizabeth Exon in No. 1 singles, as well as a couple of 6-0
victories against the Warriors’ other two singles players, the Sailors
had all the cushion they needed for the difference in games.
Harbor improves to 7-2, 4-0 in league. Woodbridge falls, to 8-3, 1-3.
