Ayso Region 57: Flaming Ice earns second shutout

The Flaming Ice defeated the Kamikazes, 2-0, in an AYSO Region 57

boys under-14 soccer game on Saturday.

John Hess, Clay Russell, Georgie Logan, Brian Thomas, Jake Campbell

and Ben Anshut were solid on defense for the Flaming Ice. Nick Svennson

scored the first goal with an assist from Max Page. Geoffrey Grant scored

with assists from Taylor Martini and Vlad Vakuleno. The shutout is the

second this season for the Flaming Ice.

In boys Division 5 action:

* Mako Sharks 3, Lightning Bolts 0 - Sebastien Welch, Braydon

Blackford and Chris Freeman each scored a goal for the Mako Sharks.

Cameron Kopple, Ryan Peyton, David Fenner, Saahm Aresh, Taylor Battram

and Chandler Mitchell were strong on defense.

* The Black Bullets were fired up in a 5-1 victory. Trevor McGhie (two

goals), Michael Borchard, Brent Gray and Scott Hansen scored for the

Black Bullets. The defense was led by Zack Martin. Sam Cubeiro, Cameron

Orr and Blake Thomsen teamed up in net. Donald Dalton, Rodney Keller and

Brian Smith contributed on offense and defense.

In girls Division 5 action:

* Chicklets 4, Lightning Bolts 0 - Catherine Sullivan, Alexa Cohen and

Madison Summonds (two goals) were strong on offense for the Chicklets.

The defense was anchored by Brynn Johnson, Jennifer Vogel and Gillian

Taylor.

* Blue Boomers 1, Funky Monkeys 0 - Ashley Svendsen scored the winning

goal with two minutes left in the game. Michelle Marshall, Caitlin

Ahearn, Katie Gronendy, Laura Martinez, Heather Barrett, Mackenzie

Constantinov, Jocelyn Neff and Taryn and Tasha Greenberg played well for

the Blue Boomers.

In boys Division 6 action:

* The Blue Rapids played their fourth game of the season against the

Purple Lasers. Josh Giger led the offense with three goals. Team captain

Daniel Hohl had multiple assists. Hutton Mckenna and Jack Gorab each had

goals and assists. Nick Molinaro and Matt Larson contributed on the

defense. Zach Murtaugh played a strong game in net for the Blue Rapids.

* The Green Machine ran into a tough Quicksilver team on Saturday.

Goals were scored by Brent Lawson and C.J. Nugent. Also putting in a

solid effort were Pete Rigas, Garrett Brewer, Brian Mull and Cort

Hastings. Blake Grable and Davis Case led the team on the defensive end

of the field.

* The Yellow Lightning battled the Commandos in a close game. Hunter

Molnar scored the only goal of the game with support from forwards Jedd

Thayer and Connor Lazar. Cole Kirby and Grant Hodgkins dominated the

midfield. Goalkeepers Michael Bui and Michael Doering were strong in net

with defensive support from Demetrios Ingram and Brook Westervelts.

In girls under-10 action:

* Laker Girls 1, Green Mean Fighting Machine 1 - Katie Deverian scored

for the Fighting Machine early in the game, but the Laker Girls answered

later with a goal from Kathryn Conner. The Fighting Machine was led by

Claire Schmidt. The Laker Girls’ defense had two saves on penalty kicks

by Layne Kelly and Amanda Johnson. The Laker Girls had solid defense from

Hannah Rome and Katie Murai.

In boys under-7 action:

* The Green Machine took on the Sharks with Tyler McPhillips (one

save) and Wilson Meyer (two saves) sharing goalkeeper duties. The defense

was anchored by Chandler Desforges, Reed Tucker, Troy Reese and Brett

Nelson. Leading the offense were Nick McGuinness (two goals) and Oliver

O’Donnell (two goals).

* The Sharks faced the Raiders in a close game that featured Logan

Piper, Sam Silverberg, James Chistian and Austin Swenson on offense. Max

Mulcahy and Jack McInally dominated the defense.
