Letter to the Editor
I am a concerned -- a very concerned -- citizen, homeowner and
taxpayer in Huntington Beach.
I am not alone when I say I feel my civil rights have been violated
and, to a degree, taken away.
For the past three years I have been frequenting the Bark Park on a
relatively regular basis. Since I work full-time and some weekends, I
have had to arrange visits around my working hours.
When the hours of the Bark Park were cut back, I actually had to rush
home to get to the park in order for my dog to get some exercise and
socialization in before we had to leave.
Now I can’t get there at all.
Who can? With the hours that it now remains open there are very few
people left that can use the park. It was our money, time and effort that
built the park.
So does the City Council care what happens to the park or the patrons
of the park? Apparently not.
There has to be some cooperation on the parts of the few complaining
neighbors, until an alternative is offered by the city. Don’t just take
away the one place that has offered peace and solace to several hundred
residents and their dogs because of a few disgruntled people. We live
together and work together and now is the time for compromise.
For the City Council to tell us they can’t address another site until
they have finished addressing the Sports Complex may just be the most
ridiculous proposition yet. They started that when my children were going
to high school and they have just graduated from college!
At that rate my dog won’t be around to see a new park. Concerned Bark
Park citizens please band together and let’s get some action.
