Army Sgt. Daniel O. Roberts was deployed to Omak in August to back up

firefighters working to contain wild fires burning across nearly 80,000

acres on the Colville Indian Reservation in Washington. He is a 1993

graduate of Edison High School and has an associate degree from Golden

West College. Roberts is the son of Calvin Boeing of Huntington Beach. .

. . Simon Bhavilai has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer Training

Corps Advanced Camp at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. He is a student at Cal

State Long Beach and the son of Vdomchoke and Puntipa Bhavilai of

Huntington Beach. . . . Navy Seaman Apprentice Soo M. Park, son of

Young-Nam and Jae-Wong Park of Huntington Beach, reported for duty at

Naval Hospital Corps School in Great Lakes, Ill. Park joined the Navy in

July 2000 and is a 2000 Ocean View High School graduate. . . . Columbia

University students Alireza Vaseghi and Catherine Beauregard, both from

Huntington Beach, made the school’s 2001 spring term Dean’s List for its

two undergraduate schools, Columbia College and the Fu Foundation School

of Engineering and Applied Science. The Dean’s List is awarded to

students who have a grade-point average of 3.33 or higher. . . . Rebecca

Lada, daughter of Douglas Lada of Huntington Beach, and Camille Rustia,

daughter of Benedicto A. Rustia and Rosalinda Pada Rustia, are among the

1,250 freshmen class members selected from 9,800 applicants enrolled at

Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. . . . Brooke Rene Guest of Huntington

Beach was among 1,630 students who received their degrees at Southern

Methodist University’s commencement May 19. Guest received a bachelor’s

degree in political science and public policy. . . . Dave R. Rawson, of

Huntington Beach recently completed basic training at Marnie Corps

Recruit Depot in San Diego. Rawson completed 12 weeks of basic training

including a physical conditioning program, combat water survival,

hand-to-hand combat and assorted weapons training.
