HUNGER’S THE PROBLEM -- YOU’RE THE SOLUTION: Hunger in our

communities, the United States and around the world remains a problem

many people in the faith community are concerned about and acting upon.

You are invited to become a part of the solution as the 13th annual

Interfaith CROP Hunger Walk, sponsored by Wahoo’s Fish Taco, takes places

at 1 p.m. Oct. 21 at St. Mark Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach.

Some 250 walkers of all ages are expected from several dozen

congregations, including St. Mark Presbyterian Church, Harbor Christian

Church, Mesa Verde United Methodist Church, Congregation Shir Ha Ma’lot,

Our Lady Queen of Angels Catholic Church, University Synagogue and St.

Elizabeth Ann Seaton Catholic Church to name a few, volunteer Robert

Johnston said.

You don’t have to be a member of a faith community to make the 7K walk

that will begin and end at the St. Mark church. You do need to want to

make a difference in the lives of hungry people by finding sponsors for

your walk. I have walked before and know that you will see friends and

make friends while walking.

Twenty-five percent of the proceeds of what you raise will go to local

organizations, such as Share Our Selves, Shelter for the Homeless, Jewish

Family Services, Catholic Worker, Orange County Interfaith Shelter and

Friends In Service to Humanity. Seventy-five percent will go to worldwide

charity groups that feed the hungry.

552 CLUB MIXER: Mistral Restaurant will be the host for the Oct. 23

552 Club Membership Mixer, which will begin appropriately at 5:52 p.m.

Complimentary hors d’oeuvres will be hosted by Mistral while beverages

are on your own. Guests are welcome to the 552 Club event, a support

CARING FOR CREATION: The Rev. Bob Parry of Costa Mesa notes that the

fourth annual Caring for Creation Conference is set for Oct. 20. It will

be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Santiago de Compostela Catholic

Church in Lake Forest. Keynote speaker will be the Rev. Jim Conlon,

director of the Sophia Center, College of Holy Names in Oakland and

author of several books, including “Geo-Justice: A Preferential Option

for the Earth” and “Earth Story, Sacred Story.” In addition there are a

dozen workshops on a variety of environmental issues and the faith

community.

Newport Harbor Nautical Museum to hear Gary Adams, mayor of Newport Beach
