Community college women’s soccer: Mahler shines in win over Santa
Ana
COSTA MESA - Jaycee Mahler scored three goals to tie the Orange
Coast College single-season mark of 24, leading the Pirates women’s
soccer team to a 4-0 Orange Empire Conference victory over visiting Santa
Ana Friday.
Mahler, a Corona del Mar High product, scored her first goal just five
minutes in off a pass from Marissa McGregor to give the Pirates (13-3,
9-1 in the OEC) the lead for good. McGregor now has a team-high 11
assists.
Kristen Hamman scored her sixth goal of the season in the 25th minute
off an assist from Alicia Santiago.
Mahler’s final two goals came four minutes apart, midway through the
second half. She netted her second goal in the 66th minute and increased
OCC’s lead in the 70th minute. Her 24 goals this season match the
school’s single-season record set by Newport Harbor High product Taylor
Yurada in 1998.
Mahler is fifth on the school’s two-year career charts, 10 goals
behind Yurada’s record of 34, with six regular-season games remaining.
The OCC freshman forward has four consecutive multi-goal games, seven in
Coast’s past nine outings and nine overall this season. The Pirates are
11-0 when she scores.
OCC goalie Laurie Perkins had four saves and posted her fourth shutout
of the season to help send Santa Ana to 6-6-2, 4-3-2.
The Pirates return to action Tuesday at 3 p.m., whey they play at
Fullerton.
