DESMOND O’GRADY SPEAKS

The similarities between spiritual truth seekers now and in the time

of ancient Rome are among the topics that will be discussed by author

Desmond O’Grady on Saturday. O’Grady, who will appear at the Newport

Beach Public Library, is the author of “Beyond the Empire: Rome and the

Church from Constantine to Charlemange.” The book traces the ascendancy

to power of the Pope and the Roman Empire from the fourth to the ninth

century.

A resident of Rome, O’Grady has written about Italy and the Vatican

for The New York Times, The Boston Globe, Newsday, The Washington Post,

The London Sunday Times and Commonweal. He is also the author of “Rome

Reshaped: Jubilees 1300-2000.”

This free program is co-sponsored by the library and the California

Center for the Book.

Kaufman to lecture about the Israeli-Palestinian peace process

UC IRVINE LECTURE SERIES

The Center for Global Peace and Conflict Studies at UC Irvine

continues its fall lecture series on Thursday with a “The Relevance of

Human Rights in a Renewed Israeli-Palestinian Peace Process,” given by

Edward Kaufman of The Harry S. Truman Research Institute for the

Advancement of Peace at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.
