Kerry Wurzelbacher has been named the director of business development

for the Newport Beach advertising and marketing firm Lawrence Mayo &

Ponder. Eileen Soriano joins the company as an account coordinator.

Wurzelbacher, a Corona del Mar resident, will be in charge of developing

new accounts for the agency, as well as supervising brand development,

strategic planning and creative development. She comes to the firm from

SaveDaily.com, where she was director of marketing. Soriano was

previously an intern at KTTV Fox 11 in Los Angeles, where she assisted in

the production of a daily talk show. . . . CommerceWest bank opened

offices in Newport Beach two weeks ago, with president and chief

executive Ivo Tjan at the helm. The bank raised $10.2 million before it

opened. CommerceWest concentrates on the needs of small- to medium-sized

businesses, with emphasis on customer service. Tjan’s goal is to expand

CommerceWest into a nationwide banking network. . . . Robert McKenna Sr.,

of Corona del Mar, received the American Cancer Society’s Volunteer

Lifetime Achievement Award from the society’s California division at an

awards ceremony Oct. 5 at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles.

McKenna helped form the partnership between Orange County hospitals and

the American Cancer Society, increasing the ability to serve patients and

family members, and to inform the public about treatments, prevention and

detection. He has been a society member since 1972. . . . Capt. James F.

Linzey, a former Costa Mesa resident and graduate of Vanguard University,

will be profiled in the 2002 edition of Who’s Who in America and Who’s

Who in the World. The book is the leading biographical reference

publisher of achievers and contributors in the world. Linzey is the

author of “A Divine Appointment in Washington, D.C.,” and was nominated

as reserve officer of the year in the Army National Guard. . . . National

Automobile Dealers Assn. Appraisal Guides, in Costa Mesa, recently

appointed three experts to top management positions. Jennifer Lange was

appointed to director of public relations, Alison Cooper was appointed to

director of new car data, and Mary Szterpakiewicz was appointed to Web

marketing specialist.
