Women’s volleyball: Lions win
Vanguard University swept visiting Hope International, 30-20,
30-19, 31-29, in a Golden State Athletic women’s volleyball match
Thursday.
The Lions (5-21, 2-14 in GSAC) trailed, 11-6, early in game one, but
went on a 14-3 run to take the lead for good.
In the second game, Vanguard jumped to a 13-6 lead before Jeslin Olson
ended the game on a solo block.
Hope International came on strong in game three, taking a 29-26 lead.
Sonrisa Peace, Debby Baeder and Megan Godfrey had consecutive kills to
tie the score, 29-29. Vanguard senior Becki Huddle tapped the ball over
the net before her opponents could get to it to give the Lions the lead.
Hope International (3-21, 1-15) made an error to end the match.
Carly Birkhauser led the Lions with seven kills and 10 digs. Freshman
setter Lacey Roberts contributed with a game-high 18 assists.
