Boys cross country: Sailors’ revenge
IRVINE - The Newport Harbor High boys cross country team avenged
its Sea View League loss to Woodbridge with a 26-29 victory over the host
Warriors in the league’s second invitational Friday.
The Sailors also defeated Irvine, 15-44, Aliso Niguel, 20-37, and
Laguna Hills, 16-43.
Newport placed three runners in the top five to overcome first-place
runner Michael Haddan (15:43) and his Woodbridge teammates. Alec
Utusuastegui (personal-best 15:53) and Nick Miller (personal-best 16:00)
and Joel Furman (16:05), finished second, third and fifth for the
Sailors. Geoff Doody came in ninth with a personl-best 16:40, while John
Rios finished 13th (17:02).
