Ken Killian, principal of Rea Elementary School in Costa Mesa, has

begun his first year as an advisor on the Harvard University Principals’

Center Board.

The prestigious position entails working with principals from around

the nation as a sounding board to Harvard’s graduate school of education.

Killian spent a summer at Harvard four years ago and applied for the

three-year position.

In addition to consulting on programming challenges facing school

leaders, Killian said it provides him a significant opportunity to

network with his peers.

“It’s certainly a tremendous personal growth experience for me. I

learn a lot of valuable information over informal sessions with other

members,” he said.
