One of the largest flags ever to fly in Orange County will be raised

at Huntington Center on Tuesday morning to kick off a celebration that

will last until Veteran’s Day, city officials said.

The Huntington Beach Police honor guard will post the colors, with

Chief Ron Lowenberg leading everyone in pledging allegiance.

The event will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be attended by city

dignitaries, police, fire and veterans, including Congressional Medal

Winner Walter Ehlers who will address the audience.

The celebration will kick off a citywide campaign, which many local

businesses are participating in called Shop, Play and Stay in Huntington

Beach -- it’s easy as pie.

The campaign promotes the idea that residents should do as much of

their buying in Huntington as possible and support local businesses. The

Flag raising is just the first of several events to come including

festivities Downtown on Veteran’s Day with an apple pie theme.
