IRVINE - Newport Harbor High senior Natalie Braverman, the top

seed, defeated Woodbridge’s Elizabeth Exon, 6-2, 6-1, in the Sea View

League girls tennis singles championship match Thursday at Woodbridge.

Both players will advance to the CIF Southern Section individual

championships, which start Nov. 17 with first-round action at the Balboa

Bay Club Racquet Club and Huntington Beach High.

Braverman, the second of three top-notch tennis-playing sisters, won

her second Sea View League singles title, having claimed her first as a

sophomore in 1999. Braverman did not play high school in 2000, when she

competed in a couple United States Tennis Association satellite and

Futures tournaments.

In the Sea View semifinals, Exon beat Newport Harbor’s Carmen Khoury,

6-1, 6-2, and Braverman knocked out teammate Diana Khoury, 6-1, 6-0.

Diana Khoury claimed third place and the CIF alternate spot.

Braverman went 14-1 in league round-robin play, losing only to Exon,

7-5.

In doubles, third-seeded Erna Hung and Trisha Lee of Laguna Hills

defeated Newport Harbor’s Kelly Nelson and Krista McIntosh, 6-3, 6-2, for

the league title. Nelson and McIntosh were seeded first.

Both teams qualified for the CIF individual doubles championships.

Woodbridge’s Jennifer Roth and Ashley Williams claimed third place and

CIF alternate position.

CIF Division II team playoffs begin Nov. 8 for Newport Harbor, which

was 8-0 in league and is ranked in the top 10 in the Southern California
