Sailors top Capo Valley, 13-8

NEWPORT BEACH - Newport Harbor High’s Sea View League champion

Sailors tuned up for the upcoming CIF Playoffs with a regular-season

ending 13-8 victory over visiting Capistrano Valley Friday afternoon.

Nathan Weiner led the way with five goals, three steals and an assist.

Michael Bury scored three times and Ross Sinclair had two goals and two

assists, and Steffan Lugo scored twice. for the Sailors, who improved to

14-13 overall.

The Sailors held a 5-3 halftime lead, but broke it open with a 6-2

margin in the third quarter, keyed by three goals from Weiner to give

their coach, Jason Lynch, a boost.

Lynch came to Newport Harbor this year after previously coaching at

Capistrano Valley and offered after his team’s recent loss at El Toro

that the game had a special meaning to him, in addition to the adrenalin

shot his team may have needed as it awaits the playoffs next week.
