As the renovation of aging schools gets underway, the Newport-Mesa

Unified School District is looking for people to serve on project review

committees at each campus.

Committee members will interact with the architects and provide input

on traffic flow and other design issues. The district hopes to receive at

least 15 applications per school and then to narrow the committees down

to seven to 11 members.

The multimillion-dollar renovation program is a result of Measure A,

passed by voters in June 2000. The schools are divided into four groups,

with construction on the first group set to start in the summer.

The committees will be assembled as the design starts for each phase.

The first committees will start meeting in early December and will

include Woodland, Kaiser Elementary, Newport Heights, Mariners, Whittier,

Monte Vista and Harbor View schools.
