UCI falls in water polo, 6-4

Long Beach State used tough defense to defeat No. 7-ranked UC

Irvine, 6-4, in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s water polo

action Tuesday night at Anteater Aquatics Complex.

The first goal was scored with 5:17 left in the first half by the

49ers’ Max Aguilar, and the Anteaters’ Chris Kirchwehm tallied the

equalizer less than a minute later, but the sixth-ranked 49ers (10-6, 3-4

in the MPSF) connected on the next three goals and never looked back.

UCI’s Doug Finfrock and Long Beach State’s Brett Adolph each recorded

10 saves.

UCI,5-11, 1-6, hosts second-ranked UCLA Saturday night at 7.
