At Monday night’s Huntington Beach City Council meeting, two awards

were presented. One was presented to the Bolsa Chica Stewards and another

to the Amigos de Bolsa Chica. Both awards were presented by our city’s

environmental representative for the efforts of these two groups for

their work in the Bolsa Chica wetlands.

I was not aware that our city had adopted the practice of awarding

efforts by personnel to clean up state-owned land. Our own city park is

in need of cleanup and improvement.

Why are we not encouraging effort to be expended within our city

limits instead of outside our city limits such as state land?

Shouldn’t the state maintain Bolsa Chica or is our city so absorbed in

looking at a tree that they cannot

see the forest?

Plans for strand should be scaled back

The city and redevelopment agency should scale back plans for the two

block-area Downtown between Main and 5th streets because the current plan

is ugly.

They have taken away the small-town charm that Seal Beach, Newport

Beach and Laguna Beach all have, and they’ve created eclectic, monolithic

structures that are taking away the ocean views from buildings further

back.

Unless they come up with something that is conducive to the “Surf City

environment,” they should find a new planning commission. This comes from

a person that has an architectural design background.
