Opera Pacific will present a Royal Russian Holiday Ball, an annual

fund-raiser, on Dec. 1 at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel in Anaheim.

The event will precede Opera Pacific’s production of Peter Ilych

Tchaikovsky’s “Eugene Onegin” at the Orange County Performing Arts Center

in February.

Kenneth Verdugo will design the hotel’s ballroom in the style of the

Palace of St. Petersburg. Balalaika musicians will entertain guests and

chorus-master Henri Venanzi will lead the Opera Pacific Orchestra in a

performance of Russian and holiday selections.

The evening will begin at 6 p.m and individual tickets are $300.

Reds win over the whites at Fleming’s

Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar in Newport Beach recently

released results from a study that proved red wines account for almost

60% of all the company’s wine sales.

Cabernet sauvignons account for 23% of the sales in the 10 Fleming’s

locations nationwide. Merlots make up 15% and Shiraz sales make up for 8%

of the red wine total.

The study showed white wines are still popular, generating more than

40% of Fleming’s wine sales. Chardonnays brought in 22% of the market and

sauvignon blancs generated 9% of these sales. Champagnes and sparkling

wines made up 5%.

OCC to get fishy in the spring

Orange Coast College recently announced a change in its spring

schedule.

Israel Horovitz’s “North Shore Fish” will replace Lisa Loomer’s “The

Waiting Room,” scheduled to be staged March 7-10 and 14-17.

“North Shore Fish” is about workers in a Massachusetts fish-packing

plant.

Show times are 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. on

Sundays.
