Women’s basketball: VU rips CS Monterey Bay, 116-54

COSTA MESA - The Vanguard University women’s basketball team opened

the season Friday night with a 116-54 nonconference victory over visiting

Cal State Monterey Bay as senior center Kelly Boeke broke the VU career

scoring record.

Boeke (12 points), one of eight players to score in double figures for

the Lions, broke Elaine Whittemore’s school record of 1,235 points.

CS Monterey Bay’s Denise Mariscal led all players with 19 points,

while Kelly Ghione added 16 for the Otters. Sophomore Paulette Seaman led

VU with 18 points, including 15 in the first half. VU opens Golden State

Athletic Conference play against Cal Baptist Nov. 20.
