The crash of American Airlines Flight 587 in New York had a rippling

effect at John Wayne Airport on Monday.

Two Continental Airlines flights were affected by the crash -- Flight

1915 to Newark, N.J., was delayed four hours, and Flight 386 to Newark

was canceled.

The airport also added more Orange County sheriff’s deputies for extra

security.

Flight 1915, scheduled to depart at 7:45 a.m., didn’t leave for Newark

until 11:48 a.m., said Julie King, a spokeswoman for the airline.

The flight landed at Newark International at 4:49 p.m., about six

hours after the airport reopened. It was shut down, along with JFK

International and La Guardia, after the crash.
