CdM, Newport mow down foes

It was business as usual for local high school tennis powers Corona

del Mar and Newport Harbor Tuesday afternoon as Corona handled visiting

Rosary, 18-0, and Newport dispatched Sunny Hills, 12-6, at the Sunny

Hills Racquet Club.

Corona del Mar’s Pacific Coast League champions improved to 21-0 and

moved into the CIF Division IV semifinals on Thursday at a site to be

determined by coin flip. The University-Santa Barbara winner will furnish

the opposition.

Newport Harbor (14-3) won seven of nine singles matches in its CIF

Division II duel with Sunny Hills, led by No. 1 standout Natalie

Braverman’s sweep, and Kelly Nelson and Kristy McIntosh, who delivered

another sweep. Also with a big effort, according to Coach Fletcher Olson,

was Diana Khoury in singles, who took two of three matches.

The Sailors await today’s coin flip for the site of their match on

Thursday against the Santa Barbara-University survivor.
