More National Guardsmen are expected to begin patrolling at John Wayne

Airport today, after an order from Gov. Gray Davis.

On Thursday, Davis ordered the additional troops to aid in the

screening of travelers and baggage, and to perform other duties.

John Wayne spokeswoman Ann McCarley said she could not say what other

duties they would perform, for security reasons.

On Nov. 9, President Bush announced a 25% increase in the number of

guardsmen patrolling airports nationwide. About 2,000 additional guards

are expected to be stationed at airports across the nation, bringing the

total to 9,000.
