Surf City’s Assemblyman Tom Harman got into the giving mode this week

when he handed out turkeys on Monday to residents in Huntington Beach’s

Oak View community.

And the turkeys went fast.

“The turkeys were gone in 20 minutes, they went a lot faster than we

thought,” said Harman’s chief of staff Bob Diddle.

Harman handed out 128 15-pound frozen turkeys to about 200 residents

at 7702 Cypress in Huntington Beach.

“It’s a rewarding experience to give away the turkeys to people that

are having a difficult time with life, it makes me feel good,” Harman

said.

The turkeys were donated by the Southern California Water Company.

“Next year we’re going to supermarkets to provide bags because all

these turkeys were frozen solid,” Diddle said. “It was kind of like the

hot potato effect because people couldn’t hold them for that long.”

Harman recommended the Oak View community be the recipients.

“It’s a low-income area where there are a lot of single parents and

people having a difficult time, so I determined there was a need in that

area,” he said. “But there’s lots of good things happening in the area.”
