Katja Muller, a sophomore outside hitter who led the Orange Coast

College women’s volleyball team to an Orange Empire Conference

championship, has been selected as the OEC’s Most Valuable Player.

OCC Coach Chuck Cutenese, who guided the Pirates to a school-record 19

regular season wins, was rewarded by the conference as Coach of the Year.

Muller, a transfer from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkansas, led

the OEC with an average of 5.98 kills per game. In addition to her MVP

honors, Muller, who was born in Dresden, Germany, was named a first-team

all-OEC player, as were teammates freshmen Krystle Davis and Amber

McCarthy. OCC sophomore middle blocker Daylyn Kelley was also honored for

her success on the court, earning second-team all-OEC recognition.

Davis, an opposite, is second on the team with 217 kills and has 57

serves aces. She ranked fifth in the OEC with an average of 3.88 kills

per game.

McCarthy, OCC’s No. 1 setter, shared a considerable amount of playing

time with a pair of backups, yet still tallied 532 assists. Her average

of 12.37 assists per game in all matches was tops in the conference.

Kelley, a Costa Mesa High product and the team captain, had 51 blocks

in the regular season and with 161 in her career, she’s the Pirates’

all-time leader.
