A driver reportedly tried to get away after hitting a pedestrian at

the corner of El Camino Drive and Fairview Road at 4:28 p.m. Friday,

authorities said.

The pedestrian suffered a broken leg and was taken to a hospital, fire

officials said.

No further information was available about the identity of the injured

pedestrian or the driver by press time.

The driver was visibly unstable and hit a “few other things” before

officers stopped him, said Costa Mesa Police Sgt. Darell Freeman. The

suspect was arrested at the corner of Baker Street and Fairview Road,

Freeman said.

Police suspect alcohol may have been a factor, Freeman said.
